Important update on the submission of the 2012 public library annual report from State Librarian, Nancy Walton.
We appreciate your patience as we migrate to the LibPAS software platform for submitting public library annual statistics.
Minnesota Statutes 134.13 states that the annual report data is due “no later than April 1 of each year.” In order to meet this statutory requirement, please enter the data for your library by or on April 1st.
if you have any questions or problems while doing data entry, please contact Bruce Pomerantz, 651-582-8890. We encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to attend the LibPAS introductory webinars and/or individual training sessions offered by Bruce. Thank you to the 75 of you who have done so.
Some of your library boards may not meet by April 1 to review and approve the data, and to have your board chair sign the approval form. To accommodate this, the “Authorization of 2012 Public Library Annual Report Submission” forms may be sent after your board meeting.
Upon receipt of any signed authorization form, an acceptance letter will be sent by State Library Services as acknowledgement for meeting this statutory requirement.
As in past years, if you need to make corrections after you have submitted your report, please let Bruce know so he can arrange with you to update the report to reflect the more accurate information.
If you have questions or concerns, please let Bruce or me know. Thanks!
Nancy

- Counting Opinions Data Entry Guide
The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) State Library Services division began collecting Minnesota public school library program and services statistics and financial data in the 2007 - 2008 school year. The data is one of several tools to assess a school library's strengths and weaknesses. School library staff and school and district staff can visit the Counting Opinions Website (link is below) to develop charts and tables comparing school library program services and finances with comparable Minnesota school libraries. This service is funded annually through the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) program.
School library data are collected on the following schedule:
- School library staff submit service and program information between April 15 and June 30 for the concluding school year.
- Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment school-wide reading percentages for Meets Expectations and Exceeds Expectations become available in September for the previous school year.
- Expenditures information for the school year for individual schools become available in March of the following calendar year.
